“ Italy’s most beautiful features meet in fabulous Umbria, as if it were a gift” from a supreme artist”

CASTELLO DI MONTEGIOVE

Nestled in the peaceful hills of Umbria, among the most poetic of Italian landscapes, the castle of Montegiove has existed since the early 13th century and for the last four centuries it has been the property of the Marquises Misciattelli. Today, it is the centre of a wonderful estate covering nearly 1200 hectares of beautiful Umbrian countryside, including a busy farm, winery and an exclusive and luxurious country house. Thanks to a continuous, demanding but fascinating project of restoration and renovation pursued by the owners, this idyllic, rustic scene has changed little since its glorious beginning.

The visit concludes in the Enoteca with a tasting of the wines produced in the Castle together with a small selection of locally made cheese, salame and bread. In 1968

Marquis Paolo Misciattelli Mocenigo Soranzo writes:

“The cellars of the Castle of Montegiove are not a large scale industrial plant, but those of a large farm where the owners for generations have adopted progressive farming practices and perfected their wines and vineyards.”

Castello di Montegiove

``Within the ancient walls of this castle, echoes of history whisper, as each stone tells a story of courage, love, and the enduring spirit of those who came before us.``

Absolute recommendation. We had a great time! I was a guest at Castello di montegiove for a week together with my girlfriend. Rikke and her family are the best hosts we could imagine. We were really positively surprised. The flat was very clean and lovingly furnished. Every recommendation from Rikke and her husband were excellent. We were especially happy about the invitation to a guided tour through the castle and the wine production and about the possibility to participate in a truffle hunt. Absolutely recommended! We will gladly come back and thank you for the great time.

Einfach alles perfekt!! Claudine, Dominik, Nick & Paulina

Great place to relax and enjoy living in a Castello! The Castello is very nicely located on a small hill! It’s surrounded by pine trees - Rikke and Lorenzo take great care of this place! They are doing there best to help you in all matters! If you like good Italian red and rose wine we strongly recommend a castle tour and the wine tasting afterwards. Seeing how these wines are produced was very nice and of course the taste is very good as well! We would love to come back to Montegiove at our next trip to Italy!

Spectacular, magical castle with an infinity pool, winery, countryside, and warm hosts Our family of four stayed for one week in the 2 1/2 bedroom expansive, beautifully appointed apartment in the converted olive oil mill at the castle. We are experienced travelers, but this was truly the best vacation of our lives. How can you feel anything but spoiled when you are relaxing at the castle pool after truffle hunting in the forest, wine tasting in the castle, and before eating an amazing meal at a local restaurant? This really is a special place and I would recommend it for larger groups (you can rent out both refurbished apartments in the converted olive oil mill), or for a romantic honeymoon stay for a couple. The castle is located in beautiful countryside, about 2 hours drive from each of Florence or Rome, so is in a great central location. We weren't sure how driving would be, so we took a train from Florence to the closest town to the castle, Chiusi, and rented a car there. But we found it very easy and comfortable driving, including for our trip down to Rome afterwards. The warm and welcoming family that own the castle (Lorenzo, Rikke, and their daughters) provide wine tours of their excellent winery, a fascinating castle tour, and recommendations of local restaurants, activities or towns to visit. We highly recommend day trips to Assisi and Orvieto, but there are many options. We also cooked in the spacious kitchen using local ingredients, including our hunted truffles! And we enjoyed eating on the back yard patio and enjoying the castle's wine under the stars. The town at the castle also has an excellent restaurant where we had some of the finest lasagne we have ever had! While the castle is in the countryside and can provide a secluded getaway for those wanting to relax, hike and escape, there is also more than enough to see and do in the many nearby towns and cities. The beds were comfortable and we slept so well. One thing that was important to us because we both had to work during part of our vacation, was having reliable internet, and we were glad to find that. The hardest part of this vacation was leaving and we cannot wait to return. We can't recommend it enough, and I am sighing wistfully as I write this, missing our wonderful vacation!

A very special and memorable stay! What a wonderful week! We stayed in one of the apartments in the Olive Mill (sleeps 6), beautifully renovated and well equipped. Rikke couldn't have been more hospitable and helpful, making our stay a really memorable and fantastic holiday. A beautiful pool a short walk around the castle and the most glorious views of the surrounding countryside. The recommendations that Rikke gave on places to visit, restaurants to try and the wonderful tour of the castle and wine tasting really were special. A really special place! (and the wine was wonderful.... by the way!). Feel very lucky and privileged to have had the chance to stay here... thank you Rikke and Lorenzo for sharing your castle and for making it such a wonderful place to visit.
